Roo Marine (RM) is an environmental technology (EnviroTech) company innovating in the emerging blue economy sector in Ireland. RM focuses on environmental monitoring & data visualization on a catchment basis. Our aim is to turn real-time coastal and marine data into engaging digital, artistic and educational experiences that helps communities, visitors, and schools understand and connect with the sea in a completely new way, democratising environmental data creatively.

Socio-Economic Analysis
Roo Marine gathers and analyses data to help identify challenges at community level and catchment level across Ireland. Housing is currently a national challenge and Catchment 29 (South East Galway Bay) is no different. On Census Night, (Sunday, April 3rd 2022) 4,505 houses in Catchment 29 were unoccupied suggesting a housing ‘utilisation’ problem.

The Team
Roo Marine was co-founded by Gerry O’Halloran and Colm O’Dowd in August 2025. They have worked in various aspects of the marine , aquaculture and coastal environmental sectors for many years. Roo Marine was established to address the gap emerging between the ongoing generation of real-time and near real-time coastal data to support research projects to capture, analyse and use their data impactfully and for communities, visitors, and schools who need help in understanding and connecting with the sea.
